So this weekend we had a lovely lady from our church give her testimony at our women’s brunch. It was really powerful to be reminded of just how amazing God really is. When you can hear the story firsthand of what God did in someone’s life, it builds faith! It reminds us that God is not so far off and He truly does care about each of us. So it’s important to keep telling our story no matter how insignificant we may think it is, we never know how it can encourage and build faith in others.
So today, I wanted to challenge you to think back over your life and recount the victories God’s given you. Remember the subtle nuances of His guidance in even small moments. When has he spoken clearly to you? When did you feel like you had no idea what was coming next and you had to learn to trust? When did you dig your roots down deeper in Him?
We overcome the world by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony! (Revelation 12:11). We cannot forget all that God has done for us — even the children of Israel had a retelling of their story right before they crossed over into the promised land so they would not forget everything God has done for them.
You are so special to God that your story is not going to be the same as the next person’s. The way He speaks to you, the way He guides you, and even the way He helps you may be as unique as your DNA — because He loves you that much. So don’t get wrapped up in comparing what God has done for you to what God has done for someone else. We can’t understand why or for what reason things happen the way they do, so I encourage you to accept your testimony as it is. It’s your story between you and God and no one can take it away and it can’t be compared to anyone else’s story. Your story can also be a powerful tool to encourage and build faith in others because you never know what part of your story can connect with someone else where they are and what they’ve been through. God can use it to bring you both closer to Him, so never be afraid to share. Sharing your story brings glory to God because it tells of His goodness, whether it was big or small. Each part of your story is important because it brought you to this moment. And whether you’ve had good or bad experiences, suffered loss, endured pain, celebrated, loved, fought, or took a wrong turn, God has carried you through it and we all can walk away with lessons learned. God never promised us a life without pain, but He did promise that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. It doesn’t mean we won’t have a burden to carry, but it does mean that He will be right there with us enabling us to carry it and helping to share the load.
In your journal today, or this week, spend some time thinking back on all the things God has done for you, big and small. Write what God is speaking to you through the story of your life and His love for you.
